தமிழகத்தின் மூத்த பத்திரிகையாளர் சின்னக்குத்தூசி என்றறியப்படும் இரா.தியாகராஜன் ஞாயிறன்று காலை சென்னையில் மாரடைப்பால் காலமானார். அவருக்கு வயது 77. கடந்த ஓராண்டு காலமாக சென்னை தனியார் மருத்துவமனை ஒன்றில் சிகிச்சை பெற்றுக்கொண்டிருந்த நிலையிலும், அரசியல் கட்டுரைகளை அவர் தொடர்ந்து எழுதி வந்தார். நண்பர்களிடம் மணிக்கணக்கில் நாட்டு நிலை பற்றி விவாதிப்பார். திமுகவின் அதிகார பூர்வ நாளேடான முரசொலியில் சில ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றியிருக்கிறார். திமுக தலைமைக்கு நெருக்கமானவர். முன்னாள் முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி நேரில் வந்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்தினார். இந்திய கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சியின் மூத்த தலைவர் ஆர். நல்லகண்ணு, மாநில துணைச் செயலர் மகேந்திரன் போன்றோரும் அவருக்கு இறுதி மரியாதை செலுத்தினர். கருணாநிதியின் மகன் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின், திராவிடர் கழகத் தலைவர் கி. வீரமணி உள்ளிட்டோர் மயிலை மயானத்திற்கு வந்திருந்தனர். பத்திரிகையாளர்கள், எழுத்தாளர்கள் என்று பலர் பெருந்திரளாக இறுதி ஊர்வலத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

I went to sleep last week living down Havelock Road and woke up in the brand spanking spruced up renamed SSJ Mawatha. The Sinhalese are a minority within the city limits of Colombo. Those who are Buddhists among them are even a smaller minority. No one had consulted the residents of Havelock road about the change of name of their road. They had no voice. Within the last few months we had witnessed Dickman’s Road becoming Lester James Pieris Mawatha, Guildford Crescent to Premasiri Kemadasa Mawatha etc. The residents of these roads also had no choice on the matter. It was imposed from above. Under the present regime, “Sinhalisation” continues, not only in Jaffna, but also in Colombo. The masses, climbed into an array of vehicles, some parents had kids sitting in the boot of cars as they toured the country viewing the many Vesak spectacles and queuing up outside the generous dansala’s. It took me six hours to drive from Kandy to Colombo. As I observed the thousands of children, grannies and entire families taking their lives into their hands by travelling at the back of tractors, half trucks, etc the police looked the other way. The law is an Ass, they say. But here in Sri Lanka, not only the law, the entire law enforcement system, seem to be braying Asses. What amazed me was the site of adults, presumably parents, sitting inside a car, while their children were sitting inside the boot with their legs hanging out. They were travelling on the crowded Colombo-Negombo Road. Sri Lankans seemed unaware or unwilling to recognise the dangers to themselves and to others. For this great majority, Havelock Road becoming SSJ Mawatha was a cause for celebration. They saw nothing wrong in not consulting the residents of the street, where their majoritarian “identity” was being “imposed” without consultation.
அறிமுகம் இன்று பல நாடுகளில் முறைசார்ந்த கல்வியில் பால்நிலை பற்றிய பாடத்திட்டத்தினைப் புகுத்த வேண்டும் என்கின்ற விழிப்புணர்வு உண்டாகியிருக்கின்றது. சிலவற்றில் வெவ்வேறு உருவங்களில் கல்வியில் பால்நிலை பற்றிய விளக்கம் புகுத்தப்பட்டும் வந்திருக்கின்றது. இலங்கையிலும் இந்த எண்ணக்கரு இப்பொழுது தேசியக் கல்வி நிறுவகத்தில் உருக்கொண்டு வருகின்றது. எந்தக் கல்விக் கொள்கை செயற்படுத்தப்பட்டாலும், எப்படியான சிறந்த புதிய பாடவிதானங்கள் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டாலும், கடைசியில் பாடசாலை வகுப்புக்களில் இவற்றையெல்லாம் செயலில் வடிவமைப்பவர்கள் ஆசிரியர்களேயாகும். ஆசிரியர்களுக்குப் பூரண விளக்கம் இல்லாது எந்தக் கல்விக்கொள்கையையும் நாம் நடைமுறைப்படுத்த இயலாது. இதற்காகத்தான், பாடசாலைக் கல்வியில் பால்நிலை பற்றிய கருத்துக்களை உள்வாங்குவதன் தேவையையும், அதன் தாற்பரியங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கூற இந்தக் கட்டுரை விளைகிறது. பால்நிலை என்றால் என்ன என்பதிலிருந்து, அது எவ்வாறுஉருவாக்கப்பட்டது, அதன் விளைவுகள் என்ன, அதனை எவ்வாறு பாடசாலைக் கல்வியில் நாம் புகுத்தலாம் என்னும் பல விடயங்களை இது கையாளுகின்றது. 
The Tamils’ vigil in Trafalgar Square marks the second anniversary of the end of the 26-year civil war. Both sides of the conflict have been accused of rights abuses. Thousands of Tamils will hold a vigil in Trafalgar Square on Wednesday evening to mark the second anniversary of the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka and to call for an independent international investigation into allegations of war crimes and human rights abuses. As many as 40,000 non-combatants died in spring 2009 as the Sri Lankan government moved to crush Tamil Tiger separatists and end the island’s 26-year conflict. Evidence of atrocities on both sides has emerged. Government soldiers have been accused of shelling hospitals, targeting civilians and attacking aid workers, while rebels are said to have used civilians as shields and shot those attempting to flee the fighting. A UN report last month accused both sides of potential war crimes, but its findings were dismissed as “baseless, biased and unilateral” by the Colombo government, which also tried to stall its publication.

Blake met with the External Affairs Minister one to one in his hotel suite to convey Madam Clinton’s message to President Rajapaksa, say informed sources, after a formal meeting with the Minister and his senior staff. That’s two years after the war when the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Panel Report is held out like a menacing hand. Two years, when most post war issues should have been managed and brought under control. That responsibility ignored with PR manipulations beyond the shores of Sri Lanka, professorial glib talk to satisfy the gullible middle class here, Sinhala heroes’ playing for local media and vernacular rhetoric aired for the poor and the innocent Sinhala majority, the world of the Rajapaksas revolve with increasing war crimes accusations. Taking umbrage against the UN and its SG instead of resolving issues at home, has only allowed piling of carefully sifted and documented evidence against this regime, during the past two years.
சென்னை: தமிழ் நாட்டில் அ.தி.மு.க. தனித்து ஆட்சி அமைக்கிறது. 15ம் தேதி ( ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை) சென்னை பல்கலைக்கழக நூற்றாண்டு மண்டபத்தில் ஜெயலலிதா 3ம் முறையாக தமிழ்நாடு முதல்வராக பதவி ஏற்கிறார். இதுவரை முன்னணி நிலவரம்தான் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது என்றாலும் அ.தி.முக., 198 இடங்களில் முன்னிலையில் உள்ளது. தி.மு.க., 36 இடங்களில் மட்டுமே முன்னிலையில் உள்ளது. மேலும் தி.மு.க., அமைச்சர்களான பொங்கலூர் பழனிச்சாமி, வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம், தமிழரசி, எம்.ஆர்.கே.பன்னீர்செல்வம் உட்பட பலர் தோல்வியைத் தழுவும் நிலையில் உள்ளனர். எனவே தேர்தல் முடிவு அ.தி.முக.,வுக்கு சாதகமாகவே இருக்கும்.

New Democrat Rathika Sitsabaiesan admits she is still “feeling a little numb” about her historic victory in Scarborough-Rouge River on Monday night. As the first Tamil elected to Parliament, she says she is also humbled. The 29-year-old first-time candidate came to Canada with her family when she was 5. “My parents are very, very proud,” she said Tuesday morning after a night of celebration with throngs of supporters at her Sheppard Ave. campaign office and later with New Democrats from across the city at NDP Leader Jack Layton’s victory party downtown. Despite “still trying to absorb it all,” the advocate for workers, students and newcomers says she wasn’t surprised by her win. The ethnically diverse riding in the city’s northeast end has a large youth population and one of the GTA’s largest concentrations of Tamils. “But it was the entire community of Scarborough-Rouge River that came together for this,” said Sitsabaiesan, who moved to the riding several years ago after completing a master’s degree in industrial relations at Queen’s University.
