இடம் : கனடா கந்தசுவாமி கோயில் மண்டபம்,
அண்மையில் இளங்கோவின் ‘சாம்பல் வானத்தில் மறையும் வைரவர்’ நூல் வெளியீட்டு விழாவுக்குச் சென்றபோது நிகழ்வு முடியும் நிலையிலிருந்தது. வன்முறையும் எழுத்தும் பற்றிய கலந்துரையாடல் நடைபெற்றுக்கொண்டிருந்தது. இளங்கோவின் நூலினை இன்னும் முழுமையாக வாசிக்கவில்லை. வாசித்து முடித்ததும் பின்னர் அதுபற்றி எழுதுவேன். ஆனால் வாசித்த அளவில் இளங்கோவின் கதைகள் கூறும் பொருள் முக்கியமானதென்று உணர்ந்தேன். புலம்பெயர்ந்த சூழலில் நிலவிய இளைஞர் குழுக்கள் பற்றிய பதிவுகளை அவரது சிறுகதைகள் பல செய்துள்ளன. இவ்விதமான ஆவணப்பதிவுகள் புலம் பெயர்ந்த தமிழர்கள் படைக்கும் இலக்கியத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் மிகவும் முக்கியமானவை. இது போல் அண்மையில் வடலி பதிப்பகத்தால் வெளியிடப்பட்ட கருணை ரவியின் ‘கடவுளின் மரணம்’ சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பும், யோ.கர்ணனின் ‘சேகுவேராவின் வீடு’ தொகுப்பும் ஆவணப்படுத்தும் விடயங்கள் முக்கியமானவை. ஈழத்தமிழர்களின் ஆயுதப் போராட்டத்தின் இறுதிக் காலகட்டத்தில் , சிறு துண்டு நிலத்தினுள் அடைந்து கிடக்கும் மக்கள் அடையும் துயர், அன்றாட அத்தியாவசியக் கடமைகளைச் செய்வதற்காக அவர்கள் (குறிப்பாகப் பெண்கள்) அடையும் சிரமங்கள் இவற்றையெல்லாம் கருணை ரவியின் சிறுகதைகள் ஆவணப்படுத்துகின்றன. மேற்படி இளங்கோவின் நூல் வெளியீட்டில் ‘காலம்’ செல்வத்தின் ‘வாழும் தமிழ்’ புத்தகக் கண்காட்சியும் / விற்பனையும் நடைபெறறது. இம்முறை எனக்கொரு புதையல் அங்கு கிடைத்தது. வர்த்தமான மகாவீரன் (மாரப்பன்) எழுதி, தானே வெளியிட்ட ‘டி.எஸ்.எலியட்டின் பாழ்நிலம்’ நெடுங்கவிதையின் மொழி பெயர்ப்பும், அது பற்றிய விரிவான திறனாய்வும் அடங்கிய நூல். நீண்ட நாட்களாக யாரும் வாங்காமல் இருந்திருக்கவேண்டும், செல்வம் அதற்கு $5 என்று விலையிட்டிருந்தார். 516 பக்கங்களை உள்ளடக்கிய நூலின் விலை $ 5. அந்த நூலுக்காக, அந்த விலைக்காக, ‘காலம்’ செல்வத்தைப் பாராட்டுகின்றேன். அந்த நூலுக்கு அந்த விலை மிகவும் குறைவு. ஆனால் வாசகர்களின் தேவையினைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் (Demand) அது குறைவாகவிருந்த காரணத்தினால் அவர் அந்த விலையினை நிர்ணயித்திருக்கவேண்டும்போல் படுகின்றது. ஏனெனில் பல அண்மைக் காலத்து நூல்களெல்லாம் மிக அதிக விலைக்கு விற்கப்படுகின்றன. அதனால்தான் அவ்விதம் கருதினேன்.

The Romantic Age in English Literature is supposed to be the work of number of writers between 1790 and 1830, especially the six poets — William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats.

Percy Bysshe Shelley
Harold Bloom has described that English Romanticism saw itself as a renaissance of the English Poetry. This enthusiasm is shared by C M Bowra, when he says: a single characteristic which differentiates the English Romantics from the 18th century poets is the special importance given to the imagination. For the Romantics imagination is fundamental because, because they thin that without it poetry is impossible. In fact if we analyze the poetry of Blake, Wordsworth, Shelley and Keats we find that they were splendidly imaginative. This was part of the belief in the individual self which sought expression or release through the imagination.
