நான் கும்பகோணம் பாணாதுரை ஹைஸ்கூலில் படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த போது தான் (1947-49) செல்லப்பாவின் சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பு ஒன்று, மணல் வீடு என் கையில் அகப்பட்டது. செல்லப்பா என்ற பெயரும் எனக்கு அதற்கு முன் அறிமுகம் இல்லை. அதில் சிறுகதைகள் உண்டு படிக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் அதை நான் கையிலெடுக்கவில்லை. எதாக இருந்தாலும் சுவாரஸ்யமாக இருந்தால் படிக்கத் தொடங்கிவிடும் ஆர்வமும் சுபாவமும் ஐந்தாறு வருடங்களாகவே இருந்து வந்தது. அனேகமாக அது தான் நான் படிக்கும் முதல் சிறு கதைத் தொகுப்பாக இருக்க வேண்டும். அதில் எனக்கு இப்போது நினைவில் இருப்பது ஒரே ஒரு கதை தான். ஒரு தாசில்தார் அவருடைய மனைவி, பின் வீட்டுக்கு வந்து போகும் ஒரு பண்ணையார்.. தாசில்தார் தம்பதியருக்குக் குழந்தைப் பாக்கியம் இல்லை. ஏக்கத்தில் என்னென்னவோ வேண்டுதல்கள் பிராயச்சித்தங்கள் பலன் இருக்கவில்லை. இடையே ஒரு ஜோஸ்யர் எதிர்ப்படுகிறார். அவர் சொன்ன தோஷப் பரிகாரம், ”ஒரு ஏழை பிராமணனுக்குக் கோ தானம் ஒன்று செய்தால், தோஷம் நிவர்த்தியாகும், தானம் செய்த பலன் அந்த வருஷ முடிவிற்குள் தெரியும்” என்று சொல்கிறார். வீட்டுக்கு வரும் பண்ணையாரிடம் தாசில்தார் மனைவி தன் வழக்கமான புலம்பல்களுக்கிடையில் இதையும் சொல்லி தானம் செய்ய ஒரு பசுவுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யச் சொல்கிறாள். பண்ணையாரும் ஒரு பசுமாட்டை ஒட்டிவந்து தாசில்தார் வீட்டில் கட்டி விடுகிறார். பின் என்ன? பசு தானம் ஏற்க ஒரு ஏழைப் பிராமணனுக்கும் ஏற்பாடு செய்து பசுவும் தானம் செய்யப்பட்டு விடுகிறது. தாசில்தாரும் அவர் மனைவியும் அந்த நல்ல செய்திக்காகக் காத்திருக்கிறார்கள். நாட்கள், மாதங்கள் கடந்து ஒரு நாள் பண்ணையார் ஒரு தட்டில் பட்டுப்புடவை வேஷ்டி, பழம் பாக்கு வெத்திலை சகிதம் தாசில்தாரையும் அவர் மனைவியையும் பார்த்து நமஸ்கரித்துச் சொல்கிறார். “ ”ஆசீர்வாதம் செய்யுங்கள். ரொம்ப காலம் கழித்து எனக்கு புத்திர பாக்கியம் கிடைத்துள்ளது ஆண்டவனோட அனுக்கிரஹம். இப்பவாவது அவனுக்கு கண் திறந்ததே”
Toronto, January 24, 2013 — Canada will launch a brand new program on April 1 to recruit innovative immigrant entrepreneurs who will create new jobs and spur economic growth, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today. “Our new Start-Up Visa will help make Canada the destination of choice for the world’s best and brightest to launch their companies,” said Minister Kenney. “Recruiting dynamic entrepreneurs from around the world will help Canada remain competitive in the global economy.” The Start-Up Visa Program will link immigrant entrepreneurs with private sector organizations in Canada that have experience working with start-ups and who can provide essential resources. The Program is part of a series of transformational changes to Canada’s immigration system that will make it faster, more flexible and focused on Canada’s economic needs. As a way to help these in-demand entrepreneurs fulfil their potential and maximize their impact on the Canadian labour market, they will require the support of a Canadian angel investor group or venture capital fund before they can apply to the Start-Up Visa Program. Initially, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will collaborate with two umbrella groups: Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) and the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO). These groups will identify which members of their associations will be eligible to participate in the Program. CIC is also working with the Canadian Association of Business Incubation to include business incubators in the list of eligible organizations as soon as feasible.
