‘எழுத்தாளர்கள் Activist ஆக இருத்தல் தகுமா? தகாதா?’ என்னை நீண்டகாலமாக அரித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் கேள்வி இது. பேப்பரும் பேனையும் கற்பனையும் இருந்தால் போதும். எவ்வளவு வேண்டுமானாலும் எழுதிக் குவிக்கலாம். எழுதியவற்றை பிரசுரிக்க பத்திரிகை உலகத் தொடர்பும் கிடைத்துவிட்டால் எழுத்தாளனாகி விடலாம். “ஒரு எழுத்தாளனின் கடமை அவ்வளவுதானா? வெறுமனே பெயரும் புகழும் தேடுவது மாத்திரம்தானா அவனது வேலை. தானும் சிந்தித்து மாற்றவர்களையும் சிந்திக்கச் செய்வதும் எழுத்தாளனின் வேலை” என்பார் ஜெயகாந்தன். “எழுத்தின் மூலமாகத்தான் மக்களை சிந்திக்கத் தூண்டுகின்றோமே – மக்களுக்கு போதனை செய்கின்றோமே. அதற்கும் அப்பால் நமக்கென்ன அலுவல் கிடக்கின்றது” என்று எழுத்தாளர்கள் எண்ணுவார்களாயின் மேற்குறிப்பிட்டவாறு அவர்களுக்கு பேப்பர், பேனா, கற்பனையுடன் – வெளியிட பத்திரிகையும் இருந்தால் மாத்திரம் போதுமானதுதான். சமுதாயத்தில் புரையோடிப்போயுள்ள அழுக்குகளை நீக்கவும், அநீதிகளை அம்பலப்படுத்தி, அவற்றுக்கு மாற்று வழிகளைக் காண்பிப்பதற்கும் எழுத்தை மாத்திரம் ஆயுதமாகப் பாவிப்பதுடன் அவனது கடமை முற்றுப்பெறுகின்றதா? சிலர் “ஆம்” என்கின்றனர். சிலரோ “இல்லை” அதற்குமேலும் அவன் செயலூக்கத்துடன் இயங்க வேண்டியுமுள்ளது என்கின்றனர். எப்பொழுதும் வித்தியாசமாக சிந்திப்பவர்களினாலும் செயல்படுவர்களினாலுமே ஒரு தேசத்தில் மாற்றமும் முன்னேற்றமும் காணப்படும் என்பர். வேலை, வீடு, உணவு, நித்திரை, குடும்பம் என்று ஒரு வட்டத்துள் சுழன்றுகொண்டு எழுதி, “எழுத்தாளர்” என்ற பெயரை சம்பாதித்தவர்களும் இருக்கின்றனர்.
[Tuesday 5 June 20128:08 pm] A meeting in the City of London, due to have been addressed on Wednesday morning by the president of Sri Lanka, has been cancelled, owing to concerns over policing amid the threat of large demonstrations by Tamil rights groups. But Mahinda Rajapakse – whose presidency has been tainted by persistent allegations of war crimes committed by Sri Lankan armed forces – will still attend a lunch for the Queen, hosted by the Commonwealth secretary general at Marlborough House on Pall Mall. The president was first to have given the keynote speech at a special Diamond Jubilee meeting of the Commonwealth Economic Forum, at 10am. On its website, the event’s organisers, the Commonwealth Business Council, simply states that “After careful consideration, the morning sessions of the Forum… will not take place.” It had pre-sold tickets to the event at £795 +VAT each. Channel 4 News was unable to obtain a response from the CBC. A spokesman for Scotland Yard told Channel 4 News that while it had agreed to guarantee the president’s security, the CBC had “decided it was not in their interest to stage the event” due to excessive policing requirements and the likely disruption to business in the City of London.
